Social media seen to boost productivity of employees

About two-thirds of Indian employees feel that social media tools like emails and chat help increase productivity, a survey by software major Microsoft said. However, the survey, conducted for Microsoft by the research firm Ipsos of 1,825 employees across APAC (Asia Pacific) region, also said that using social media tools at workplace leads to loss of productivity. Seven in 10 workers said security concerns are to blame for the restrictions, while six in 10 say the restrictions lead to productivity loss. However, 71 per cent of respondents believe the social media has actually helped increase their productivity, the survey said. Likewise, seven in 10 feel social media tools have increased workplace collaboration and that their company recognises the value of such tools, it added. While 61 per cent of Asia-Pacific employees said social media tools at workplace help increase their productivity, 38 per cent feel their companies underestimate the value of social media, often restricting its use, the survey said. The survey findings revealed that 57 per cent employees in APAC region would like to be involved more actively in decisions to add new technologies and tools at their workplace and 45 per cent would be willing to spend their own money on social media tools to bring in more efficiency. Source: mydigitalfc.com, Image
