By Neeraj Jha, The largest two-wheeler maker in the country, Hero MotoCorp, unveiled five new products on Wednesday in New Delhi, including RNT, a concept 150cc diesel scooter; HX250R, a high performance sports bike; Leap, the first electric hybrid scooter in India; Dash-110cc scooter and a sport variant of 150cc hero Xtreme. The company had showcased nearly 15 products in November 2013. “Except RNT, which is a concept, we are planning to launch 150cc Xtreme Sports edition in the first quarter of FY15, 110cc scooter Dash in the second quarter and Leap and 250cc sports bike in the second half of FY15,” Hero Motocorp managing director and CEO Pawan Munjal said. The concept diesel scooter, Hero RNT, is powered by a 150 cc diesel engine and is equipped with electric motor powered by a battery pack in the front. This gives the rider a unique two-wheel drive option for tough and bumpy roads and a possibility to turn off the rear drive while on the city roads and switch to front-wheel drive. However, the company is not sure when the RNT will be launched. “It’s a concept and we will have to do a lot of research before we bring it to the commercial arena,” said Munjal. While RNT, Leap and 250 cc bike HXR250R are completely new, Dash and Xtreme models are based on existing platforms. According to Munjal, Leap, which features both petrol and electric engines, would be launched first in western markets. Debuting in the sports category is the 250cc HX250R, which features a high performance liquid-cooled engine. It is considered as the most anticipated bike from Hero. Dash is a standard 110cc scooter, which almost looks like Maestro and is powered by a 111cc engine that churns out 8.5 bhp and has a torque output of 9.4 Nm. The Dash tips the scales at 110 kg with a six-litre fuel tank. Dash would compete with Honda Activa and TVS Wego. Hero Xtreme Sports edition, a sportier variant of hero Xtreme is powered by a single-cylinder 150 cc engine producing 15.2 bhp with maximum torque pegged at 12.8 Nm, mated to a five-speed gearbox. “What we are showcasing today is just a glimpse of the range of products that we are developing.
